Custom field sales

Slice sales by a custom field captured on each line item at import — for example bin location.

Intro

Custom field sales groups sales by a value you capture on line items — a Shopify metafield such as bin location, a channel code, a season tag, anything you have mapped as a line-item custom field. It answers questions the fixed reports cannot: which bin sold the most this month? or what did the wholesale channel move?

Purpose

  • Revenue, units, COGS, and profit per custom-field value
  • Drill from a value into the products behind it
  • Sales velocity (Units/day) for each value or product

Before you start

You need at least one custom field on the LineItem entity — for example product.metafield:custom.bin_location (or variant.metafield:custom.bin_location when the metafield lives on variants). Create it under Advanced → Custom Fields; see Custom Fields. Values are captured when orders sync, so orders imported before the field existed have no value.

If no line-item fields exist, the page shows No line-item custom fields configured yet with a link to create one.

Run the report

  1. Open Reports → Custom field sales.
  2. Choose the Custom field to group by.
  3. Set the date range (this report uses the order date, not the label ship date).
  4. Optionally filter by Product — type a name or SKU and press Enter.
  5. Read the KPI cards: Values, Orders, Units, Revenue, Profit.

Product drill-down

Click a value to see its products: Product, SKU, Vendor, Orders, Units, Units/day, Revenue, COGS, Profit, Active window. Use All values to return.

Unattributed units

A warning such as N units ($X) in this range have no captured value means some orders in the range were imported before the custom field existed (or the product had no value). Those units are excluded from the rows below the warning.

Tips

  • Cancelled and test orders are never counted.
  • Because the basis is order date, totals will not match the label-based Overview for the same range — that is expected.
  • Bin-location reports are a quick way to see whether your fastest movers sit closest to the packing bench.
