Custom Fields

Capture Shopify data StoresBoost does not track by default — on orders, line items, customers, and addresses — for filters, documents, and reports.

Intro

Custom Fields let you store data StoresBoost does not track out of the box — a gift-message flag, a bin location metafield, a wholesale reference — captured from Shopify at import and kept on the order and its related records.

Purpose

  • Capture business-specific data next to the order
  • Give conditions, filters, and documents more signals to work with
  • Feed the Custom field sales report with a stable value per line item

Create a field

  1. Open Advanced → Custom Fields and click New Custom Field.
  2. Fill in:
FieldOptions
NameHow it appears in the app
EntityOrder, Line item, Customer, Shipping address, Billing address
Value TypeText, True / false, Number, List, Date & time, Date
Value SourceWhich Shopify field or attribute to read — for line items this can be a product metafield such as product.metafield:custom.bin_location, or a variant metafield such as variant.metafield:custom.bin_location. Use the form that matches where the metafield is defined in Shopify (Settings → Custom data → Products vs. Variants); a plain custom.bin_location is not a metafield reference and captures nothing.
Lock at first importCapture the value once and never overwrite it on later syncs
  1. Save, then sync or import an order and confirm the value appears.
Turn on Lock at first import for anything you report on. A bin location that changes after the order sold should not rewrite last month's numbers.

Line-item fields and reports

A Line item custom field is what powers Reports → Custom field sales: every value captured at import becomes a row you can group revenue, units, and profit by. Orders imported before the field existed have no value and show as unattributed in the report.

Line-item fields on documents

Captured line-item values print on pick lists, packing slips and item labels through {{ custom_fields.<slug> }}, where the slug is the field name lower-cased with underscores — Item Bin Location → {{ custom_fields.item_bin_location }}. A field whose name contains bin also feeds the stock {{ bin_location }} token when no bin metafield is synced, and any line-item field can be a Sort rows by column. See Documents → Bin location on pick lists.

Maintain fields

  • Edit labels and sources from the list. Each row shows the field's type, its value source in small print, and a Locked at import badge when Lock at first import is on — so you can tell at a glance which values are frozen.
  • Long lists: use Search fields… above the list to filter by name.
  • Disable or delete only after checking nothing depends on the field — Conditions, Automation Rules, Documents, or the Custom field sales report may reference it.
