Departments

Intro

Departments group people — Packing, Customer Service, Returns — so larger stores can organize members beyond individual roles. A department can carry roles of its own; every member inherits them on top of their personal roles.

Purpose

• Reflect your real team structure in the app
• Grant a set of permissions to a whole team at once
• Pair with Advanced → Visibility so each department only sees its own shipment queues
• Populate the Packed by picker on shipments with your packing team

How to set up

1. Open Collaboration → Departments and click Create Department — name, slug, description.
2. Open Members (or Assign members) and add people.
3. Open Roles and attach the roles the whole department should have.
4. Optionally create a Visibility rule under Advanced targeting this department.

Example: a Packing department

A common setup is a Packing department with a Packer role that has only View orders, Fulfill orders, and View rate shopper — enough for Scan & Ship and rate comparison, nothing else. Members of the Packing department appear in the Packed by picker on the shipment configure card and in the Packed by card on Scan & Ship (where the choice sticks per bench computer), and the Packer performance report attributes labels to them. Only departments named Packing feed the picker, and it appears only while the department has active members.
