Roles & permissions
Built-in role ladder, custom roles, the full permission catalog, and how permissions map to app menus.
Intro
A role is a named bundle of permissions. Every menu, button, and action in StoresBoost checks a permission, so roles decide what each teammate actually sees. People get permissions from their own roles and from roles attached to their departments.
The default ladder

| Owner | Full control incl. billing — bypasses every check |
| Admin | Everything operational + configuration, including all apps |
| Manager | Runs day-to-day; most work areas, limited admin, no Weather |
| Staff | Shop floor — orders, fulfillment, products; not settings |
| Viewer | Read-focused access |
System roles show a System badge and cannot be deleted. The store owner can still rename them and edit the description from Edit on the role card. The internal identifier stays the same.
Customize a role
- Open Collaboration → Roles. Search by name or filter All roles / System / Custom; each card shows N permissions · N members and when it was created.
- Click Create Role, or open an existing role's Permissions.
- Enable only what the job needs.
- Save, then assign the role on Team or attach it to a department.
- Ask the person to refresh — their menus update to match.
Permissions
Collaboration → Permissions summarises categories, permissions, default roles and your own coverage, then offers three tabs:
- Role matrix — every role against every permission
- By permission — pick a permission and see who has it
- Your access — what you personally can do right now
Permission catalog
Most areas have a view and a manage permission. View opens the page; manage allows changes.

Troubleshooting access
- Menu missing → role lacks that ability, or the plan does not include the feature.
- "You can't view roles / departments" → the person lacks View roles / View departments; an owner or admin has to grant it.
- Tags picker empty → Tags feature (plan) or View Tags permission.
- Can see but not act → view permission without the matching manage / edit permission.
- Reports missing → role lacks View analytics.
- Weather card missing for a packer → Manager / Staff roles do not include Weather by default; add View weather.
